June 2012 Flower Show

The June Flower Show takes place at our monthly meeting held on June 21. Entry time is 6:30 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. Judging begins at 7:15 p.m. sharp. Our design theme this year is "Notable Events and Anniversaries". Listed below are the categories for the show. Click here for a print-ready schedule (pdf 44kb)

SECTION A – CUT SPECIMENS

  1. Aquilegia (Columbine), 1 stem
  2. Aruncus, (Goatsbeard), 1 stem, not to exceed 1 metre
  3. Clematis, with leaves, 1 stem
  4. Hosta, one cultivar, 3 leaves
  5. Hosta, 3 cultivars, one leaf each cultivar
  6. Hosta, small or miniature, 1 leaf
  7. Dianthus (Pinks), 3 stems
  8. Hemerocallis (Daylily), 1 stalk
  9. Iris, bearded, 1 stalk
  10. Iris, bearded, 2 stalks

SECTION B – PLANTS

SECTION C – FRUITS & VEGETABLES

  1. Rhubarb, 3 stalks, on a plate (trim stalks to a 2.5 cm fan)
  2. Herbs, 3 or more varieties, displayed in water, must be named
  3. Any other fruit or vegetable, 1 to 3

SECTION D – DESIGN CATEGORIES

Show Theme: "The War of 1812"
  1. Laura Secord – A design incorporating any chocolate box
    a) Experienced exhibitors
    b) Novice exhibitors (A person who has not yet won a first-place ribbon in a design category at an EYGC flower show.)
  2. The Brock Monument – A vertical design
  3. Fort George – A design incorporating weathered wood
  4. The Battle of Lake Erie – A design with visible use of water
  5. The Burning of the White House – A miniature design, using flame-coloured flowers (maximum dimensions 12.7 cm)
