June 2024 Flower Show

The June Flower Show takes place at our monthly meeting held on Monday, June 17. Entry time is 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Judging begins at 7:30 p.m. sharp. Maximum of one entry per class per entrant. Listed below are the categories for the show.

SECTION A – CUT SPECIMENS

  1. Allium, 1 stem
  2. Aquilegia (Columbine), 1 stem
  3. Clematis, with leaves, 1 stem
  4. Hosta, 1 cultivar, large, 3 leaves
  5. Hosta, 1 cultivar, medium, 3 leaves
  6. Hosta, small or miniature, 1 leaf
  7. Hosta, 3 cultivars, variegated, 1 leaf each cultivar
  8. Dianthus (Pinks), 3 stems
  9. Hemerocallis (Daylily), 1 stalk
  10. Iris, 1 stalk
  11. Peony, single, 1 bloom
  12. Peony, double or semi-double, 1 bloom
  13. Rose, hybrid tea, 1 bloom
  14. Rose, floribunda, 1 stem
  15. Rose, polyanthus, 1 spray
  16. Rose, climber or rambler, 1 stem
  17. Rose, any kind not listed, 1 stem
  18. Rose, floating in a clear glass bowl provided by the exhibitor, with its own foliage, unattached (See “bowl” on definitions page)
  19. Rose, full blown, 1 bloom
  20. Any other perennial or biennial, 1 stem
  21. Any other perennial or biennial, 3 stems of the same kind
  22. Any other flowering bulb, corm or tuber, 1 stem, spike or spray
  23. Container of flowers, 1 kind only
  24. Collection of flowers, 3 or more kinds
  25. Collection of native flowers and/or grasses, 3 or more kinds, must be named
  26. Flowering tree/shrub/vine, 1 branch, not to exceed 1 metre

SECTION B – HOUSE PLANTS

  1. Cactus or succulent, 1 pot
  2. House plant, foliage, 1 pot
  3. House plant, flowering, 1 pot

SECTION C – FRUITS & VEGETABLES

  1. Rhubarb, 3 stalks, on a plate (trim stalks to a 6 cm fan)
  2. Herbs, 3 or more varieties, displayed in water, must be named
  3. Any other fruit or vegetable, 1 to 3

SECTION D – DESIGN CATEGORIES

June Design Theme: "It's a Leap Year"
  1. Leaps & Bounds – sustainable foliage design
    a) Experienced exhibitors
    b) Novice exhibitors (A person who has not yet won a first-place ribbon in a design category at any OHA society flower show.)
  2. Take a Flying Leap -a satellite design
  3. Look Before You Leap - a small design incorporating a mirror (13.9 cm to 25.4 cm)
  4. Leap Frog - an underwater design
  5. Lovers Leap - a fresh miniature design (maximum dimensions 12.7 cm)
