June 2018 Flower Show

The June Flower Show takes place at our monthly meeting held on Tuesday, June 21. Entry time is 6:30 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. Judging begins at 7:30 p.m. sharp. Listed below are the categories for the show.

SECTION A – CUT SPECIMENS

  1. Allium, 1 stem
  2. Aquilegia (Columbine), 1 stem
  3. Clematis, with leaves, 1 stem
  4. Hosta, one cultivar, large, 3 leaves
  5. Hosta, one cultivar, medium, 3 leaves
  6. Hosta, 3 cultivars,variegated, 1 leaf each cultivar
  7. Hosta, 1 leaf, any cultivar - First-time exhibitor
  8. Hosta, small or miniature, 1 leaf
  9. Dianthus (Pinks), 3 stems
  10. Hemerocallis (Daylily), 1 stalk
  11. Iris, 1 stalk
  12. Peony, single, 1 bloom
  13. Peony, double or semi-double, 1 bloom
  14. Rose, hybrid tea, 1 bloom
  15. Rose, grown for fragrance, 1 bloom
  16. Rose, floribunda, 1 stem
  17. Rose, polyanthus, 1 spray
  18. Rose, climber or rambler, 1 stem
  19. Rose, shrub, 1 stem
  20. Rose, any kind not listed, 1 stem
  21. Rose,floating in a clear glass bowl with its own foliage, unattached (bowl – See definitions page)
  22. Rose, full blown, 1 bloom
  23. Rose, miniature, 1 stem
  24. Violas, (Pansies) 5 stems with leaves
  25. Any other perennial or biennial, 1 stem
  26. Any other perennial or biennial, 3 stems
  27. Any other flowering bulb, corm or tuber, 1 stem, spike or spray
  28. Container of flowers, 1 kind only
  29. Collection of flowers, 3 or more kinds
  30. Flowering tree/shrub/vine, 1 branch, not to exceed 1 metre

SECTION B – PLANTS

  1. Cactus or succulent, 1 pot
  2. House plant, flowering, 1 pot
  3. House plant, foliage, 1 pot

SECTION C – FRUITS & VEGETABLES

  1. Rhubarb, 3 stalks, on a plate (trim stalks to a 2.5 cm fan)
  2. Herbs, 3 or more varieties, displayed in water, must be named
  3. Any other fruit or vegetable, 1 to 3

SECTION D – DESIGN CATEGORIES

Show Theme: "Stargazing"
  1. North Star a triangle design
    a) Experienced exhibitors
    b) Novice exhibitors (A person who has not yet won a first-place ribbon in a design category at an EYGC flower show.)
  2. Big Dipper -a design with visible use of water
  3. Gemini - a design using two containers
  4. Milky Way - an design showing movement
  5. Little Dipper - a fresh miniature design (maximum dimensions 12.7 cm)
