September 2010 Flower Show

The September Flower Show takes place at our monthly meeting held on September 16. Entry time is 6:30 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. Judging begins at 7:15 p.m. sharp. Our design theme this year is "Life is Beautiful". Listed below are the categories for the show.

SECTION A – CUT SPECIMENS

  1. Aster (annual), 3 blooms
  2. Aster (annual), mixed colours, 3 blooms
  3. Aster (perennial), 1-3 sprays
  4. Chrysanthemum, 1 spray
  5. Chrysanthemum, 3 sprays
  6. Chrysanthemum, container of mixed colours
  7. Clematis, 1 stem
  8. Dahlia, cactus, 1 bloom
  9. Dahlia, decorative, 1 bloom
  10. Dahlia, any other kind, 1 bloom
  11. Fruited berry branch, not to exceed 1 metre
  12. Gladiolus, any colour, 1 spike
  13. Marigold, French type, 3 blooms
  14. Marigold, African type, 3 blooms
  15. Petunia, single, 1 bowl
  16. Petunia, double, 1 bowl
  17. Rose, hybrid tea, 1 bloom
  18. Rose, floating in a bowl with foliage
  19. Rose, full blown, 1 bloom
  20. Rose, miniature, 1 bloom or spray
  21. Rose, any kind not listed above, 1 stem
  22. Salvia, 3 spikes
  23. Sedum, 1 head
  24. Seed pod or head, ripened naturally on natural length of stem, 3 stems
  25. Zinnia, 1 bloom
  26. Any kind not listed above, 1 specimen
  27. Any kind not listed, 3 specimens
  28. Container of ornamental grasses, 3 or more kinds
  29. Container of flowers, 3 or more kinds

SECTION B – PLANTS

  1. African violet, single, 1 crown, 1 pot
  2. Hanging planter, foliage, 1 or more varieties
  3. Hanging planter, flowering, 1 or more varieties
  4. Herb(s), in 1 pot, up to 3 kinds, must be named
  5. Pelargonium (Geranium), flowering, 1 pot
  6. Planter, not to exceed 40 cm
  7. Any other flowering plant, 1 pot

SECTION C – FRUITS & VEGETABLES

  1. Mixed vegetables on a plate
  2. Mixed fruits on a plate
  3. Herbs, up to 5 varieties, displayed in water, must be named

SECTION D – DESIGN CATEGORIES

Show Theme: "Life in the Forest"
  1. Wild Life – A Design Including a Toy/Figurine Animal
    a) Experienced exhibitors
    b) Novice exhibitors (A person who has not yet won a first-place ribbon in a design category at an EYGC flower show.)
  2. Nature at its Best– An Interpretive Design
  3. Harvest Moon – A Design Using Yellow or Orange Flowers
  4. Watch That Log – A Design Incorporating a Twig or Branch
  5. Leaf Me Alone – A Miniature Design (maximum dimensions 12.7 cm)
